A 52 Week Autobiography Through Music – Week 20 – Talking Heads
Its been a rather hectic week so we shot off to the countryside for some much needed rest and relaxation this weekend. It is for this reason that I am writing even less than usual especially considering how remarkable this band is and how much I could say about them. This week’s video, as you can see, is also a different approach from the previous 19 and is one that I may work with in future videos as I feel it might give me the opportunity to highlight the artists and music more than having me just drone on about who knows what…
As of right now there is not a separate David Byrne video planned for this series although I am rethinking this as I type. He has done so much outside of the Talking Heads that has been highly influential that I really encourage anyone who is not familiar with him and his work to investigate further. He has collaborated with countless musicians on an incredibly wide variety of musical projects let alone other media. He is a true creative who’s influence will be felt far into the future. One of my favorite early DB solo projects is Music for the knee plays which was Music he created for an Opera by Robert Wilson called “The Civil Wars: A tree is best measured when it is down.”
As usual here are a few links to check out:

The Talking Heads selections here are among my favorites also, but these kinds of musicians seem to hit me in the right spot pretty reliably.
