The Beach Boys are certainly one of the most well know bands in rock and roll history and they were a part of my early sonic environment yet after a certain point I really was disinterested in their music. Its amazing though what a little historical context can do for my ears and appreciation of music - As I was researching the band a little and listening for what music would accompany the video I really heard "Wouldn't it be Nice" with fresh ears and wow, what a great song. Pet Sounds is recognized as one of the greatest Rock and Roll albums of all time but I never paid attention to that one until now. I will certainly be listening to it in the coming weeks, discovering some of the depth that I missed in my early exposure to the band... when I was 8.
This week, as I say in the video, is a transitional post as refers as much to the band The Beach Boys as to a point in my life that I began to be interested in collecting records myself and that Is the possibly the real start of my personal relationship to music.
