Telephone

A four volume set of new music of chaos and noise.

Cover of the second release in the series

Recently I have thought a lot about the nature of communication and how stories and ideas are transformed as they pass from one person to another, how the retelling stories are filtered through personal experience, mood, relationships with those listening, and ultimately the motivation in relating the information. Misinformation – “false information that is spread, regardless of intent to mislead.” is on the one hand and Disinformation – “deliberately misleading or biased information; manipulated narrative or facts; propaganda” is the more malevolent. With the near instant propagation, through social media and the internet false narratives can overshadow the factual information that is essential for the health and wellbeing of a civil society.

Upon improvising these 40 pieces I realized that they, in terms of their sonic quality, mapped very nicely onto the sense of confusion, chaos and uncertainty that has been prevalent in recent months. The Covid pandemic and the US elections have been particularly difficult and for me, releasing these four short albums is having a cleansing effect. There is a sense of closure and of giving a voice to some of the unspoken anxiety, anger and frustration that I, and so many, have experienced.

You can here track 1 from the first volume below and the rest can be heard at: pancycle.bandcamp.com with releases happening each of the four Fridays of December
